As it has done so often this season, Founders Tavern followed a bad loss in the Greenport Men's Softball League with a big win. This time, Founders Tavern beat front-running Marcello Masonry, 24-6, on Friday night at the Polo Grounds. The Founders Tavern player/manager, Jon Schlachter, called it "a huge win for us." http://www2.timesreview.com/ST/stories/T081408_BRIEFS_BL CHAMPION HITMEN FINISH 26-1 The All-League Hitmen 16-and-under team won a National Junior Baseball League championship by sweeping two games from Farmingdale on Sunday, 6-5 and 2-0. Actually a weakfish and a bluefish were mentioned in by-catches at the station during the past week. Steuer won a 35-lap main event for his 15th career victory in the modified class. http://www2.timesreview.com/ST/stories/T081408_CORRECTIONS_BL A headline appearing above a story about the Empire State Games in last week's edition incorrectly stated that the Long Island scholastic men's basketball team won silver medals. It won bronze. Last week's story about beach volleyball player Geoff Penny contained an inaccurate reference to Di Angela Leather's first North Side-Out Beach Volleyball League championship. Howie Brodis Insurance won the league's inaugural title four years ago, one year before Di Angela Leather won its first league championship.
